BROADCASTERS
The Sound and Vision archive mainly contains the public service broadcasters. Since 2007, all their Dutch-language output is archived at Sound and Vision. Prior to that time, a selection of programmes was archived. Each year, a limited selection of commercial broadcasters is also archived.

Note: broadcasters sometimes change their name, so they may appear multiple times in the chart above - e.g. AVRO and TROS appear separately to the amalgamated AVROTROS. Now we will take a brief look at the details of the top 5 most frequently occurring broadcasters in the archive.

NIET VAN TOEPASSING
Wait one moment - 'niet van toepassing'? 'Not applicable'? Why is this entry the second most frequently occurring broadcaster in the archive? The chart below shows the series titles of programmes with this 'broadcaster', and reveals the secret. For many programmes, the broadcaster is indeed 'not applicable'. For example, for 'internationale nieuwsuitwisseling'- items received under an exchange programme with news broadcasters in other countries. Or Polygoon films, that were shown in the cinema. Or adverts ('reclamedatabase') and other 'in between' content such as public information films (e.g. Postbus 51), that fall outside of the broadcast slots of the public service broadcasters.
